‘Glad to see my old friend’: Former pro snowboarder joins the sport
LOS ANGELES (AP) Former pro skier, pro snowboarding and pro snowboardser Jonnie “Ducky” Roberts says he’ll be a pro skydiver again and he’s glad to be a part of the sport.
Roberts, whose last name means “golden,” was on a ride on the popular Silver Line, the most popular high-speed route on the mountain, in 2011 when a plane crashed into the platform.
He was thrown from his ride, which is known as a skid, into a tree and died the next day.
He has since made numerous appearances on TV shows like The Real World and Dancing with the Stars.
Roberts said he still enjoys the sport but has had some health issues.
“The last couple of years I have had some problems with my feet and it just kept getting worse,” he said.
Roberts will return to the sport after his accident on Saturday and will compete in the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
The 26-year-old said he’s had good luck and good people in the sport and he hopes to get back on the podium.
