Snowboarder dies in avalanche in Israel
A single-board skier has died after an avalanche in the Israeli resort town of Kiryat Arba.
A spokesman for the municipality, which oversees the ski resort, said the 22-year-old was in the resort’s main area and that he was “not injured.”
The spokesman said the avalanche happened in a section of the resort marked by snow and ice.
A statement issued by the municipality said the victim was an employee at the ski area and died of his injuries on Monday.
The incident happened at around 3:40 a.m. local time, and the snow was falling at an average rate of 4 centimeters (1 inch) per second.
The snow and snow cover caused a slide down a slope, and several cars were crushed under it.
A number of cars were injured in the crash.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
